IMPORTANT NOTICE: As of Friday, March 1, there will be TWO Jumu'a salaats held at Masjid-e-Ayesha.
After daylight savings time takes effect (March 15 onward):
First Khutba: 1:50 PM
Second Khutba: 2:45 PM
There has been some discussion recently about the validity or acceptability of a second Jumu'a prayer. Below are the opinions and fatwas of several reknowned scholars and Islamic institutions from other parts of the world.
From Mufti AK Hoosen (South Africa):
"IN YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES IT IS PERMISSIBLE TO HAVE A SECOND JUMMAH... ONE MUST ACCOMMODATE THE PEOPLE WHO WISH TO READ SALAT AND NOT TO BOYCOTT THEM. I WITNESSED THIS PROBLEM WHEN I WAS THERE LAST YEAR IN RAMADHAN WHERE THE EID SALAT AND JUMMA WERE REPEATED DUE TO THE HUGE CROWDS... AND ALMIGHTY ALLAH KNOWS BEST." -AK HOOSEN
From Ali Gomaa, Grand Mufti of Egypt:
Fatwa on Second Jumu'a Prayers in response to an inquiry from Switzerland (click for PDF)
From Mufti A.S. Desai, Mujlisul Ulama, South Africa:
"Obviously under normal circumstances two Jumuah Salaat should not be held in the same Musjid. However, if the Musjid simply cannot accommodate all the musallis and if there are valid reasons for not continuing the saffs outside the Musjid, then it will be permissible to have a second Jumuah Salaat in the same Musjid... The second Jumuah Salaat in your circumstances is valid. However, the Imaam who performed Salaat in the first Jumuah may not conduct the second Jumuah Salaat and Kuhtbah."
From Masjid Nabawi - Department of Fatwa (Madinah, Saudi Arabia):
"It is allowed when there's a need -ضرورة- e.g. masjid is too small; in that condition, it is allowed. But it is not allowed if it is due to custom i.e. they should not do it deliberately as, say, each claming that they can't follow the other, or the other one is wrong and the one is right; it shouldn't be based on hatred or just following their own whims."
